Antique French Faience Pottery Drug Jar

A large Bordeaux faience or pottery drug jar with domed lid, writhen handles and painted with a coat-of-arms of the Carmelites, and a label DIASCORDIUM (a form of early opiate)
Made in the Hustin factory of Bordeaux, France, who predominantly made pharmaceutical jars for monasteries.
The arms are of the Carmelites who were nuns and monks of the Roman Catholic Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel who provided medical care to the poor
A drug jar from the same group, marked ROSARUM, but lacking its lid, was sold by David Duggleby Auctioneers, 21st September 2024, lot 1110 (£650 including premium)
