Fine Pair of Louis XVI Ormolu Candlesticks
£1,950
A very fine pair of Louis XVI gilt bronze candlesticks, each with original laurel-leaf decorated drip-pan with husk trailed, fluted vase shaped nozzle raised on a tapering shaft decorated with panels of stylised floral motifs and with acanthus leaf bases on a circular spreading foot, again cast and chased with acanthus leaves and edged with beaded and stiff leaf borders. These candlesticks have been drilled through the nozzles for electrification. We could wire these in our workshop to form a pair of lamps
Note:
Each individual component is stamped T and some elements are also stamped with an M and a quatrefoil, all inside the castings, therefore probably representing the designer, founder/manufacturer or perhaps the person responsible for the fine chasing or chiseling carried out to define the cast decoration.
An identical pair (tough with replacement drip-pans) was sold Christies (here illustrated)
