Antique Large French Gilt-Bronze Lamp after designs by Jean-Charles Delafosse and Ennemond-Alexandre Petitot
£2,900
An exceptional quality French gilt-bronze table lamp, the part fluted stem faced by swag-hung oval reserves, supporting a laurel leaf decorated neoclassical urn and raised on four angular scroll feet faced by paterae. Originally conceived as a pricket stick and now wired for electricity with silk braided flex and faux candle fitting
The exact design of the present lamp is either a lost work by Jean-Charles Delafosse, or at least, very heavily influenced by his work- see related design by Delafosse, here illustrated.
Delafosse [sometimes De la Fosse], Jean-Charles (1734-1789) was a French architect and draughtsman working in the Neoclassical style in France during the second half of the 18thC. He also designed decorations and engraved them himself and published his Nouvelle Iconologie Historique in 1769.
