George II Parcel-Gilt Mahogany Overmantel Mirror

of unusual form, the central arched plate with scallop-edge over a square plate flanked by two rectangular plates and contained within a rectangular mahogany and parcel-gilt frame the spandrels filled with gilt-wood palm fronds.

The central arched plate with scallop-edge probably pre-dates the frame by some thirty years – mirror-plates were an expensive commodity and it was not uncommon for good quality plates to be re-used from earlier, out-dated frames
