From the 16th century until the early 19th century, strawberries were sold at markets and on the streets in cone-shaped punnets or baskets known as “potties”. In medieval times strawberries were considered an aphrodisiac, and newlyweds were traditionally fed a soup made of strawberries, borage and cream on their wedding night
