George III Mahogany Serpentine Commode attributable to Thomas Chippendale

£7,900

A fine George III mahogany serpentine commode or dressing chest, of pleasingly small scale and exceptional figuring, colour and patina. The highly figured, serpentine top over four, graduated oak-lined serpentine fronted drawers, the top drawer fitted with a baize-lined brushing or writing slide; flanked by stop fluted pilasters to the canted corners and with outswept sides,  raised on shaped bracket feet. The form, extremely fine timbers employed and quality of craftsmanship, combined with the horizontally stacked support blocks to the underside of the bracket feet point compellingly towards an attribution to the workshop of Thomas Chippendale
