George III Mahogany Window or Dressing-Table Stool

of unusual form, with dished upholstered seat and moulded shaped legs headed by anthemion

Height 43 cm (17 inches)
Width 74cm (29 inches)
Depth 43 cm (17 inches)
possibly American, circa 1775

The unusual, perhaps slightly gauche, design of the offered stool would suggest that it was made by a high quality provincial firm of makers, such as Wright and Elwick of Wakefield in Yorkshire or, indeed, by a chair-maker in Philadelphia or New York
