George Edwards (1694–1773) was a distinguished English naturalist and ornithologist, best known for his work ‘A Natural History of Uncommon Birds’. Published between 1743 and 1761 during his tenure as Librarian at the Royal College of Physicians in London, it featured engravings and detailed descriptions of over six hundred previously unrecorded species and it importantly introduced many previously unseen exotic birds from Europe, Asia, and the Americas to an English audience.
