A pair of large gilt bronze wall sconces in the style of Michel-Paul-Joseph DeWez, the leaf-cast back-plates with lion masks above portrait medallions and each supporting three husk-draped, leaf-cast scroll branches with fluted candle-nozzles
Michel-Paul-Joseph DeWez, born at Halanzy in Luxembourg in 1724, was apprenticed at the prestigious workshop of Jacques Röettiers in Paris in the 1760s. Elected maître orfèvre in Brussels in 1773, he became bijoutier-orfèvrier to Charles, duc de Lorraine et Bar, Governor-General of the Low Countries
