Louis XV Provincial Open Armchair
of very elegant form. The serpentine cresting above the outstretched padded arms on scrolling supports leading down to the loose-cushioned seat supported on a rush base with flower-carved serpentine apron, standing on cabriole legs united by stretchers. All covered in wonderful fragmented silk upholstery, probably early 19thC dress silk over the earlier duck-egg-blue damask.
The very elegant shape of this chair, whilst charming in its present state, would look equally lovely if the top cover were replaced in order to make it useable as a chair.
