Jean-Jacques Prévost, known as Prévost Ainé, 1735-1782, was part of a large and highly-skilled family of artists from Picardy.He, and his younger brother, Jean-Louis, known as Prévost LeJeune, 1760-1810, produced botanical works in a very similar style, and their output stood out as being of such a high standard that they were ranked alongside Pierre-Joseph Redouté as the foremost botanical artists of their generation in France.
