Oliver Messel Original Tester Bed & Window Curtains
A unique ‘four poster’ or Tester Bed designed and made by Oliver Messel plus two pairs of window curtains in the same fabric. In 17th century style hung with Messel’s “Cluny” fabric. Originally conceived by Oliver Messel for the Stuart Bedroom at Flaxley Abbey, a grade 1 listed former monastery in Gloucestershire. Here illustrated in-situ in the Stuart Bedroom published in Country Life and also illustrated in John Cornforth’s book.

Oliver Messel was one of the foremost theatre set designer of the 20thC, he was in the same circles as people such as Cecil Beaton and was the uncle of Lord Snowdon and worked a lot for Princess Margaret in Mustique. Messel also refurbished many rooms at The Dorchester Hotel in London.
