There was an extraordinary flowering of Portuguese rococo at the quasi-royal court of the Archbishopric of Braga under two Archbishops, uncle and nephew, D. José and D. Gaspar de Bragança, members of the Royal family. Between 1741 and 1789, working closely with their brilliant architect/designer André Soares, the architecture and interiors of the new wing of the archbishop’s palace became  a riot of exuberant rococo.
