Pair of George III Painted Armchairs

£2,350

An unusual and charming pair of George III painted and caned bergere armchairs, of tub-shape with square backs and arms curving around the oval, caned seats with green leather squabs raised on turned tapering legs united by peripheral stretchers, all painted in pale ochre with green line decoration. Possibly made by Gillow of Lancaster, though no directly comparable designs are know. The unusual oval seat also has a distinctly American flavour.
