The architect Sir Jeffrey Wyattville carried out major alterations in the early 19th century on the Elizabethan house at Longleat at which time many rooms were hung with Chinese wall-paper (one here illustrated, including a pair of dressing-table lamps from Ardgowan Antiques), and it seems probable that the present coal-boxes were ordered for these rooms
