Rare Pair of George III Feltwork Pictures
£4,900
A very rare pair of large early 19th century felt-work dioramas on an unusually large scale, each showing a basket of strawberries sitting on a bracket, one made of quillwork with mica and the other wirework, and surrounded by bunches of grapes, peaches, apples, cherries, blackcurrants and trailing vines with butterflies and a cut lemon resting on the inside ledge. Presented in original painted and parcel-gilt frames. Signed Fruit Piece By Martha Maria Bowes 1795 these works date to circa 1810 meaning that the date of 1795 would suggest that this was Martha’s year of birth and she created them around her 15th year of age
