Sold by Christopher Gibbs circa 1970s

An identical pair of dummy boards, certainly from the same workshop and also supplied by Gibbs, were sold from the collection of Simon Sainsbury at Christies, London, The Creation of an English Arcadia, 18th June 2008 lot 230, here illustrated. Christopher Gibbs seemingly purchases the dummy boards again in the Christies sale as they now flank the fireplace of his Tangier home which he shared with his partner Peter Hinwood, until Christopher’s death in 2018.
