Somewhat in the manner of Jean-Louis Grégoire (1840-1890), better known for bronze sculpture than wood carving. Grégoire studied at the prestigious Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris under the renowned sculptor Jean-Jules Salmson, and first exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1867
