Unusual Ivory Lidded Bowl
in mediaeval style, with domed upper section and turned body
Height 10 cm (4 inches)
Diameter 9.5cm (3 3/4in)
The ivory bowl is similar to the 12th century example incorporated into the Howard Grace cup and thought to have belonged to Thomas à Beckett, and then later mounted in gold in the 1520s, possibly for Queen Catherine of Aragon
