William IV Specimen Marble Centre Table

A smart William IV specimen marble centre table the circular top inlaid with a pavement of irregular specimen marbles including, amongst others, Egyptian Alabaster, Carnelian, Malachite, Green Porphyry and Cipollino Verde above a C-scroll carved frieze, on a turned and lappet carved tapering stem with three scroll carved legs.

 

The specimen marbles featured in the Pietra Dura top are believed to have been collected from the ruins of the PALACE OF THE CÆSARS within the Farnese Gardens in Rome, in the 1830s
