Regency Chamberlain’s Worcester Chinoiserie Plate from the Prince Regent Service
£250
painted in chinoiserie style with a gardener with plants, the border with three Chinese pavilions
Provenance: The Henry Sandon Collection
The Prince of Wales, later Prince Regent and then George IV, visited both the Barr, Flight & Barr factory and H & R Chamberlain’s factory in Worcester in September 1809, ordered services from both and granted them both his Royal Warrant. From H & R Chamberlain he ordered what was described as a “harlequin” service, each piece decorated in a different pattern copied from Old India and other China. This service was delivered in 1811.
A chinoiserie plate made at Chamberlain’s Worcester factory, part of the Prince Regent’s dinner service possibly for use at Brighton Pavilion, see note below. Chamberlain’s Worcester inscription on base and Henry Sandon Collection label also on underside.
