François Ladatte (1706-1787) was born Francesco Ladetti in Turin. At the age of twelve he moved, with his family, to Paris where he trained as a sculptor. In 1744 he turned to Turin and became the Royal Sculptor attached to the court of Victor-Amadeus II of Savoy. He is most noted for his work in gilt-bronze and, in particular, for supplying mounts for the spectacular marquetry furniture supplied to the court by Pietro Piffetti
